Sept. 14, 2015
NEW YORK - Junior defender Morgan Proffitt of the Marquette University women's soccer team was named the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, while redshirt senior midfielder Jacie Jermier was named to the weekly honor roll.
Proffitt helped Marquette hold Northern Arizona and South Dakota State to a pair of goals in 200 minutes of action over the weekend, while the Golden Eagles went 1-0-1 with a 2-1 win over NAU and a 1-1 draw with SDSU. Proffitt, an All-BIG EAST Preseason Team selection, scored the game-tying goal in the 51st minute against the Jackrabbits on Sunday. It is the first career weekly honor for Proffitt.
Jermier assisted Proffitt's tying tally against SDSU and helped the Golden Eagles outshoot their opponents 51-13 over the weekend and hold a 16-2 edge in corner kicks. The 2015 Senior CLASS Award candidate has recorded a pair of assists and a goal this season and has started MU's last four contests in the midfield after beginning the season as a defender.
The Golden Eagles (3-3-1) return to action on Thursday, Sept. 17 in just their second road contest of the season at South Alabama and will also face LSU on Sunday, Sept. 20 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
