Golden Eagles Open Up Four-Game Homestand Friday Night

MILWAUKEE-- The Marquette University women's soccer team (2-5-1) returns home to Valley Fields Friday, Sept. 19, when it hosts No. 16 Kansas (8-0-0) for a 7 p.m. Central time tilt.

The Blue and Gold look to get back to their winning ways after falling to No.12 Texas A&M, 3-0, this past Sunday night in College Station, Texas. The Golden Eagles' defensive unit was unable to fend off the Aggies' persistent offensive attack, allowing Texas A&M to tally 24 shots and 13 shots on goal in the contest. Junior goalkeeper Amanda Engel collected a career-high ten saves in the match. Marquette collected 10 shots, and fell short of its season-average of shots per game by nearly three attempts against the Aggies.

The Kansas Jayhawks are off to the best start in program history, opening the season with eight-straight victories and an unblemished record of 8-0. Kansas took care of the University-Missouri Kansas City Kangaroos, 1-0, its last time out, continuing its 280-minute streak of shutting out its opponent. The Jayhawks have not trailed in a match this season, and have not allowed an opponent to record a goal in the past three matches.

Liana Salazar, the Big 12's second leading point scorer, paces the Jayhawks offensively with six goals and a total of 13 points already this season.

Friday's action against the Jayhawks begins a four-game home stand for the Golden Eagles which carries on to beginning of BIG EAST Conference action and features Kansas, LSU, Creighton and Villanova.
