Miller Named to Senior CLASS Award List
Sept. 18, 2012
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University senior midfielder Ally Miller has been named a candidate of the 2012 Senior CLASS Award and is among 30 senior female NCAA student-athletes listed as candidates. The Senior CLASS Award is presented each year to the outstanding senior NCAA Division I student-athlete of the year across 10 different sports.
"This is a tremendous honor for Ally, our program and Marquette," said head coach Markus Roeders. "She has excelled in the classroom, on the field and with her involvement in the community. She is among the elite defenders in the country and her level of consistency every day is outstanding. Ally plays like a senior, a captain and at the same time will give every ounce of herself for the success of our team. We are excited what this year will bring for her and our team; Ally will play a major role in our success."
Miller has started all but three games in her career and has helped Marquette to three-straight BIG EAST American Division Championships. In 2011 Miller was an All-BIG EAST third team selection and an NSCAA All-Northeast Region third team honoree.
Miller is an advertising and marketing major with a 3.862 grade point average. In the spring of 2012 she had a perfect 4.0 GPA and has been named to the Dean's List in the Diedrich College of Communication each semester that she has been at Marquette. Following the 2011 season, Miller earned NSCAA All-Central Region second team honors.
Throughout her career at Marquette, Miller has tutored children at Milwaukee Public Schools and helped to raise nearly $10,000 in support of breast cancer research through the team's annual cancer awareness night. Miller has been involved with Cure for Kirby, Hunger Clean-Up, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee, Milwaukee Rescue Mission and TOPSoccer.
From the list of 30 candidates, a national media committee will select ten finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award in early October. Those 10 names will then be placed on the official ballot for a nationwide vote. Fan balloting will be coupled with votes from coaches and media to determine the recipient of the award.
