MILWAUKEE--Junior midfielder Jacie Jermier was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Jermier helped anchor the Marquette defensive unit which allowed just one goal in two matches this past week. The McFarland, Wis. native, played a pivotal role in Marquette's victories over No.16 and previously unbeaten Kansas and LSU.

Jermier and the Golden Eagles held the Jayhawks to just three shots on goal in their victory. Along with her stingy defense, Jermier provided the game-winning score on a free kick against Kansas.

"Congrats to Jacie and our team on an outstanding weekend, beating two talented teams," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Jacie has really come into her own and has played great for us. Not only is she a big part of our defense, but she is also a key part of our attack. Although she is still young, she is a leader for us and plays a huge role on and off the field for our team."

MU returns to action this Thursday when it hosts Creighton for its 2014 BIG EAST Conference season opener. Game time is slated for 7 p.m. Central time.
