Maddy Henry named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Oct. 10, 2016
NEW YORK - Marquette University freshman goalkeeper Maddy Henry was selected as the BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week, while senior midfielders Liz Bartels and Morgan Proffitt were each recognized on the women's soccer weekly honor roll.
The Golden Eagles (8-5-2, 4-1-0 BIG EAST) went 2-0 over the last week with a 1-0 victory over Xavier on Thursday and a 2-0 triumph over Providence on Sunday afternoon. With the two shutouts, Marquette now has won three in a row and has not allowed a goal in its last 310 minutes of game time.
Henry posted her third clean sheet of the season with three saves against the Friars on Sunday and also made a pair of saves to help MU blank the Musketeers on Thursday. She has tallied 54 saves along with a .740 save percentage during her rookie campaign.
Proffitt earned her spot on the weekly honor roll by anchoring the defense to two straight shutout victories. The Columbus, Indiana native helped the defensive unit only allow five shots on goal in the last two contests.
Bartels was named to the weekly honor roll for assisting the game-winning goal against Xavier and scoring the match winner herself at Providence. It was her first goal since the season opener on Sept. 19 at Nebraska.
The BIG EAST honors are the first this season for Bartels and the second for Henry, while Proffitt's recognition is her fourth weekly accolade of 2016.
The Golden Eagles return to Milwaukee to welcome No. 6 Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 16 for their annual `Kick for a Cure' match in support of the fight against breast cancer. The contest will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network through FOX Sports Go.
