Oct. 17, 2012
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Marquette women's soccer senior defender Ally Miller was named as one of 10 finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award® in collegiate women's soccer, it was announced Wednesday.
"Ally Miller has been a cornerstone of our program and the success we have enjoyed for the past four years," head coach Markus Roeders said. "Among the hardest workers ever in our program, she has elevated her play and is among the top defenders in the country."
Miller owns a 3.862 grade point average as an advertising major and marketing minor. She achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the spring of 2012 and has been named to the Dean’s List in the Diedrich College of Communication each semester she has been enrolled at Marquette.
"She has led on the field, in the classroom and with her commitment to serving the community," Roeders said. "Her passion to succeed is contagious and she makes the players around her better. Considering she is a fantastic student as well, being named among the 10 seniors to be selected for the 2012 NCAA Senior CLASS Award is truly outstanding and she is very deserving."
A versatile and intelligent player, Miller has started all but three games of her career, and has helped Marquette to four straight BIG EAST American Division Championships.
"Beside always giving 100 percent, she is the ultimate team player and wishes for nothing other team success. It will be a joy to watch her and our team play over the upcoming weeks. We are very proud of her accomplishments thus far," said Roeders.
Twenty NCAA® men’s and women’s soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as finalists for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award®. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 men’s candidates and 30 women’s candidates announced in September. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through Nov. 19.
