NEW YORK – A pair of Marquette University women’s soccer players were honored by the BIG EAST Conference on Monday afternoon as Darian Powell was named the league’s offensive player of the week, while Morgan Proffitt took home top defensive player honors following two shutout victories over Villanova and Butler.

Powell added to her team-leading goal total with all three tallies for the Golden Eagles (8-6-4, 5-2-1 BIG EAST) over the week, including a pair of match winners. The La Porte City, Iowa native scored twice in Thursday’s 2-0 win over Villanova at Valley Fields, and also added the lone goal at Butler on Sunday in the 32nd minute. The forward currently paces MU with six goals and 13 points and was recognized as the conference’s top offensive performer for the first time in her career.

The Golden Eagles held a 12-1 edge in total shots against Villanova and posted a 7-5 advantage at Butler in Proffitt’s native Indiana on Sunday afternoon. The junior was also named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 14 and earned weekly honor roll recognition on Sept. 28.

The Golden Eagles, who are unbeaten in their last five contests (4-0-1) and have recorded four shutout wins over that stretch, will face DePaul on Friday, Oct. 30 in their regular season finale at Wish Field in Chicago at 2 p.m. Central time.
