No. 15/10 Marquette Earns Fifth Consecutive Berth To NCAA Championship

MILWAUKEE - For the fifth consecutive year and 11th time in program history, the Marquette University women's soccer team will play in the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The No. 15/10 Golden Eagles (16-2-2) will host Illinois State (13-4-2) in the first round at Valley Fields on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m.

The 2012 NCAA Championship format features 32 first-round sites with only one game being played the first weekend at each site. The second and third round games will be hosted at eight different home sites, Nov. 16 and 18. The winner of the Illinois State at Marquette game will face the winner of the Princeton at West Virginia matchup in the second round with a location to be determined.

The Golden Eagles are the automatic qualifier from the BIG EAST Conference after winning the conference championship title on Sunday. In addition to MU, Georgetown, Notre Dame and Rutgers are also among the 64 teams vying for the National Championship. It is the second straight year that the BIG EAST has had four teams in the tournament.

Marquette is set to play in its 11th NCAA Tournament in program history. The Golden Eagles have received bids in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. They are 7-8-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, 6-3-1 in first round games, while advancing to the second round five times. MU's longest run in the NCAAs came during the 2005 and 2010 seasons when the Golden Eagles advanced to the third round.

Illinois State advances to the NCAA Tournament as the automatic qualifier from the Missouri Valley Conference after winning its second consecutive conference title. The Redbirds topped Indiana State in the championship finals, 5-1. This will be the program's fourth NCAA Tournament appearance and third in the past four years.

Two-time MVC Player of the Year, Rachel Tejada leads Illinois State with 46 points; 18 goals and 10 assists. Goalkeeper Aryn Newsom has compiled a 10-4-2 record in net this season

The 2012 College Cup Championship will be held Nov. 30 and Dec. 2 at Torero Stadium in San Diego, Calif.
