Marquette Earns Sixth Straight Berth to NCAA Championship

MILWAUKEE - For the sixth consecutive year and 12th time in program history, the Marquette University women's soccer team will play in the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. The No. 13/6 Golden Eagles (18-3-0) will host Western Michigan (9-5-5) in the first round at Valley Fields, Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. CT.
The 2013 NCAA Championship format features 32 first-round sites with only one game being played the first weekend at each site. The second and third round games will be hosted at eight different home sites, Nov. 22 and 24. The winner of the Western Michigan at Marquette game will face the winner of the Iowa at Notre Dame matchup in the second round at campus sites.
The Golden Eagles are the automatic qualifier from the BIG EAST Conference after winning the conference championship title on Sunday. In addition to MU, Georgetown, DePaul and St. John's are also among the 64 teams vying for the National Championship.
Marquette is set to play in its 12th NCAA Tournament in program history. The Golden Eagles have received bids in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. They are 9-8-4 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, 7-3-1 in first round games, while advancing to the second round six times. MU has reached the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2005, 2010, and 2012.
Western Michigan reached the NCAA tournament as the automatic qualifier from the Mid-American Conference after the Broncos defeated Ball State, 1-0 in the championship. It is the program's second NCAA tournament berth. WMU is led by Rachel Chaney (8 G, 2A) and Aubrey Sudomier (5 G, 8A) who each have 18 points this season.
The 2013 College Cup Championship will be held Dec. 6 and 8 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
