NSCAA Release

KANSAS CITY – Marquette University seniors Morgan Proffitt and Liz Bartels were each recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with All-Northeast Region honors, it was announced on Tuesday.

Proffitt, the BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Year, was named to the second team as a midfielder, while Bartels earned third team honors as a forward.

Proffitt is a two-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection and was also a second team all-region choice in 2015. The Columbus, Indiana native was a member of the United States Under-23 Women’s National Team this past summer and was a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award as well as collegiate soccer’s most prestigious award, the MAC Hermann Trophy.  She concluded her career sixth all-time at MU with 83 matches started and scored 10 goals, including a career-best five in 2016.

Bartels is a three-time All-BIG EAST performer who started all 22 matches in 2016 and all but one contest over the last three years. The Omaha, Nebraska native tallied three goals as a senior, including a pair of match winners, and improved Marquette’s offensive firepower with a move to forward from the midfield during BIG EAST play.

The Golden Eagles earned their 13th NCAA Championship berth in 2016 after claiming a share of their sixth BIG EAST regular season championship and advanced to the title match of the conference tournament.
