Dec. 9, 2013
MILWAUKEE--Marquette University women's soccer senior forward Maegan Kelly adds another accolade to her resume as she has been selected to the third team 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I All-America squad.
Kelly was the spark of the Golden Eagles offense this season as she netted a team-high 10 goals and eight assists for 28 points. She was a perfect three-for-three in penalty kicks, including one game-winner.
"This is a wonderful honor for Maegan and our program," head coach Markus Roeders said. "We couldn't be more proud of the career she has had here at Marquette. The impact, both on and off the field, will be lasting and she has definitely left her mark as one of the top players in our history. Being named an All-American in her final season speaks for Maegan's talents and the season our team has enjoyed. Over the years, she has been an elite player in the Big East and now she will carry her soccer forward to the professional level. We will miss her but we appreciate all she has done during her time at Marquette."
Kelly became MU's all-time assists leader this season, a record that stood since 1997, finishing with a career total of 37. She was a three-time first team All-BIG EAST selection and was named to the All-Rookie squad as a freshman.
Marquette concluded the season with an 18-4 overall record and won a fifth consecutive BIG EAST regular season championship and earned its second straight conference tournament title. The Gold Eagles fell in the first round of their sixth straight NCAA Championship.
