Marquette Opens IU Winter Invitational

The Marquette women's tennis team got back on the court after a two-month hiatusc at Day 1 of the IU Adidas Winter Invitational hosted by Indiana University. The Golden Eagles won two singles matches and had two doubles victories for the day.
In doubles action, the duo of Aleeza Kanner and Ana Pimienta defeated Jade Johnson and Drew Fillis of Bowling Green, 8-3. They will face the Hoosiers' Leslie Hureau and Sophie Garre on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
Also winning in doubles was Rocia Diaz and Erin Gebes who defeated Bowling Green's Mary Hill and Katie Brozovich, 8-3. The tandem will take on Clark and Rhyner from Missouri Saturday at 2 p.n. CT.
Diaz and sophomore Ali Dawson earned MU's singles victories for the day. Diaz won a hard-fought match over Missouri's clark, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7). Dawson was also on the winning end as she defeated BGSU's Fillis, 6-1, 6-1. Pimienta narrowly lost her singles flight to Missouri's Gayton-Leach, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
