MU Concludes Day Two at the IU Winter Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- The Marquette University women's tennis team continued competition in day two of the IU Winter Invitational in Bloomington, Indiana.

The Golden Eagles won six matches between singles and doubles action. Tomorrow, the Invite concludes after doubles rounds four and five take place at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. Eastern time. 

MU's Ana Pimienta, Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner won all but one of their matches, with the losses occurring on the doubles end. Dawson and Kanner partnered to defeat opponents from Oregon 8-6, but then lost to a duo from Abilene Christian 8-6. For singles play, Dawson saw a 7-5, 6-4 victory and Kanner notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Abilene Christian competitors.

Pimienta boasts a 4-1 record heading into day three of competition. The senior won against Brittney Reed from Abilene Christian 6-1, 6-2 in singles, while defeating another duo from Abilene Christian 8-6 with Erin Gebes in doubles. Pimienta's loss came after a Oregon tandem notched a 8-2 win over Pimienta and Gebes in doubles.

Once competition concludes in Bloomington, Marquette heads back to campus to prepare for a five-match homestand. MU takes on cross town rival, UW-Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Later that day, MU will serve up against Bradley at 5 p.m. Central time.
