Singles Play Concludes at IU Winter Invite

Laia Hernandez Soler claimed the .one singles victory

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.--The second day of competition at the 2014 Indiana Winter Invitational finished on Sunday with the conclusion of singles play in Bloomington, Ind.

Sophomore Laia Hernandez Soler was the lone winner for Marquette in singles action as she battled Rabea Stueckemann from Oregon to extra sets and claimed a hard-fought 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (12-10) victory.

Senior Rocio Diaz and sophomore Erin Gebes defeated IU's Gaby Rubenstein and Kim Schmider in a straight 6-0 set in extra doubles play, while Hernandez and teammate Ali Dawson narrowly missed out on a victory over Abilene Christian in a 7-5 decision.

The IU Invitational will conclude on Monday with doubles play only, which is slated to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
