Jan. 20, 2013
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Marquette women’s tennis team (1-1) rebounded from a loss to easily defeat Montana (0-2), 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Baseline Tennis Center on the campus of Minnesota. The Golden Eagles swept doubles as sophomore Ali Dawson teamed up with junior Rocio Diaz for an 8-3 victory over Heather Davidson and Laurence Pelchat at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Erin Gebes joined sophomore Ana Pimienta and the duo defeated Sasha Carter and Maddy Murray, 8-3, while the freshmen tandem of Aleeza Kanner and Aina Hernandez Soler won an 8-4 decision over Ashley Mackey and Precious Gbadamosi. MU fell just short of a complete sweep dropping the No. 2 singles spot in a very close contest as Diaz fell, 6-3, 1-6, 10-7. “We had a tough loss against Minnesota yesterday,” head coach Jody Bronson said. “I think our players learned a lot from that match and they really came out strong today, which helped us win, 6-1.” The Golden Eagles will return to Indiana next weekend and take on the Hoosiers Saturday, Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. CT in Bloomington.
