MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team capped its second victory of the day after defeating Bradley Saturday, 6-1 at the Helfear Tennis Stadium.

Senior Ali Dawson and junior Aleeza Kanner again found themselves trailing 2-1 to start their doubles match. Not fazed by the early deficit, the duo moved to 2-0 on the day in doubles play after winning seven of the next eight sets played to win 6-3.

Senior Ana Pimienta and junior Erica Gebes teamed up again in the No. 1 doubles slot. They made quick work of the Bradley duo taking a 6-2 win. Pimienta and Gebes also won both their doubles matches Saturday.

Sophomore Diana Tokar took the court for her first doubles match of the day with freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez and raced to a fast 6-1 victory over the Braves.

The Golden Eagles clinched the match with another strong showing in singles play. Pimienta, Tokar, senior Vanessa Foltinger and Tormos Sanchez all won their second singles matches of the day in straight sets.

Both Gebes and Tokar found themselves in a tiebreaker to decide their first sets of their matches. Gebes needed five points to decide the tiebreaker, but in set number two she cruised to victory winning 7-6 (5), 6-0. Tokar fended off her opponent with two extra points after the match was tied at 6-6. The sophomore found a groove and finished the match winning 7-6 (2), 6-2.

The Braves gained their lone victory in a highly contested singles match vs. Dawson. After Bradley's Ariel Dechter claimed the first set 6-4, Dawson bounced back with a strong 6-1 second set victory. In the decisive stanza the women battled back and forth, but it was Dechter claiming the match with a 10-7 victory.

The Golden Eagles, now 2-0 this season, return to action at home next Saturday, Jan. 31 for dual play against Horizon League competitors UIC and Green Bay.
