MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team dropped another close one to no. 36 Iowa, 4-3, but rebounded against Wis.-Milwaukee, 6-1, Sunday afternoon at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles tally their first win of the season and improve to 1-3 in dual play. "We had a very challenging weekend playing two nationally ranked opponents in three days," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We were right there with Iowa and we know we are a better team than last year. But, we need to turn those 3-4 losses into 4-3 wins. We played hard today and we played together. Every step is a step forward." Against Iowa Sunday morning, the Golden Eagles started off the day winning the doubles point claiming two of three matches over the Hawkeyes. At no. 1 doubles sophomore Lauren Little teamed with junior Shannon Brown to down Hillary Mintz and Klockinga, 8-4. Lee's win over Little at top singles position, 6-3, 6-3 secured the win for Iowa.
Later in the afternoon, Marquette pulled together, shuffled the lineup and dominated cross-town rival, Wis.-Milwaukee, 6-1. After winning all three doubles matches, the Golden Eagles got consecutive singles wins from Moore at no. 1 singles in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, over Katenholz and from senior Francina Bonnelly at no. 4 singles.
