Golden Eagles Top UIC and Green Bay

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team began the 2012 dual season on a high note defeating UIC, 4-3, and Green Bay, 7-0, Saturday at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The doubles point proved to be the difference maker against the Flames as Marquette earned all three doubles wins to take the doubles point and secure the early lead. Ana Pimenta and Rocio Diaz made quick work of Jana Knoppe and Kathryn Sharples, 8-2, at No. 3, and Tina Radan and Ali Dawson clinched the first point of the day with their 8-5 win over Mariva Kovaleva and Haley Craig at No. 2.
In singles play, the Golden Eagles claimed wins at Nos. 1, 3, 4 and 6. With the score tied 2-2, Hush and Fischer all finished strong to seal the victory for the Golden Eagles. Fischer topped Kovaleva, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 1, and Hush rallied after a dropping her first set to defeat Simonetti, 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3.
Against Green Bay, Marquette swept the doubles point and continued to cruise in singles play. Ali Dawson and Vanessa Foltinger made quick work of Maria Anderson and Samantha Iwen, 8-2, at No. 3, and Rocio Diaz and Ana Pimienta clinched the first point of the day with their 8-2 win over Rebecca Nelson and Amanda Timm at No. 2. Gillian Hush and Olga Fischer completed the sweep with an 8-3 win over Morgan Weuve and Jennifer Bradfield at No. 1.
In singles play, the Golden Eagles claimed wins at all six spots. Seniors Olga Fischer and Gillian Hush had stellar preformances on the day, easily defeating their opponents at No. 1 and No. 3 respectively. Fischer topped Kovaleva, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and Hush blanked Timm, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
