MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team opened its 2016-17 home campaign with a 6-1 victory over UIC, Saturday morning, at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Marquette (1-0) was able to quickly secure the available doubles point, as MU swept that portion of the dual. Isabella Franks and Lesley Foe defeated their opponent, 6-1, to allow MU to take an early lead. Paula Tormos Sanchez and Diana Tokar would then beat their doubles foe, 6-2, to clinch the point for MU.

In singles action, MU was able to win five of six contests, which included a lengthy three-set match out of the No. 1 slot, resulting in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, victory for Silvia Ambrosio. Diana Tokar also helped the Golden Eagles by securing a 6-2, 6-3, win out of the No. 2 position.

Marquette will next take on in-state foe Green Bay later this afternoon (Jan. 28) at 5 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The match will open a stretch of three consecutive matchups against in-state squads for Marquette.
