Women's Tennis Downs Iowa State, 5-2

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Marquette University women's tennis team earned its third straight win Saturday afternoon over Iowa State, 5-2, in Kalamazoo, Mich. The Golden Eagles won the doubles point, while seniors Olga Fischer and Gillian Hush, sophomore Rocio Diaz and freshman Ali Dawson all earned singles wins.
Marquette began the day with wins at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead. The No. 1 duo of Fischer and Hush took down Maria Fernanda Macedo and Jenna Langhorst, 8-3. Ana Pimienta and Diaz also won their match 8-3 over Simona Cacciuttolo and Ksenia Pronina at No. 2.
In singles play, Marquette quickly made it 3-0 with wins at No. 3 and No. 5. Hush defeated Cacciuttolo, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3 and Dawson took care of Tessa Lang at No. 5, 6-1, 6-2.
The Cyclones threatened with wins at No. 4 and No. 2 to come within one point, 3-2, but Marquette sealed the 5-2 win following victories at No. 1 and No. 6. Fischer pulled out a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 over Macedo and Diaz edged Marie-Christine Chartier, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Sunday against Western Michigan at 11 a.m.
