Women's Tennis Falls 5-2 at Western Michigan

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Marquette University women's tennis team saw its three-match win streak snapped at Western Michigan, 5-2, Sunday afternoon at the West Hills Athletic Club. Gillian Hush and Ana Pimienta each earned singles wins for the Golden Eagles.

Marquette (3-1) fell short of the first point of the day, winning only one doubles match. The No. 1 duo of Hush and Olga Fischer defeated Nini Sujashvili and Kathleen Hawkins, 8-2.

In singles play, the Broncos (4-2) earned the first two singles wins to go ahead, 3-0. Pimienta got Marquette on the board with her 6-1, 6-0 win over Maria Nivia at No. 3, but Sujashvili's win over Fischer, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 secured the team win for Western Michigan.

Hush rallied after dropping her first set, 4-6, to defeat Maggie Remynse in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 2.

The Golden Eagles open a six-match home stand on Thursday Feb. 9 against Milwaukee. Doubles play will begin at 5 p.m. at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
