Marquette Earns a 5-2 Victory over Iowa State

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis squad (2-1) handed Iowa State a 5-2 loss on Friday evening at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles made quick work of the Cyclones (3-2) in doubles action. Senior Rocio Diaz and sophomore Erin Gebes defeated Meghan Cassens and Ana Gasparovic in a swift 6-1 decision that took just 23 minutes. Junior Vanessa Foltinger and sophomore Aleeza Kanner clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Lydia Green and Emma Waites.
In singles play, Foltinger clinched the match victory for MU as she defeated Gasparovic 7-5, 6-2 on the No. 4 court. Junior Ana Pimienta battled to a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 victory at No. 1 singles, while classmate Ali Dawson earned a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Cassens. In the No. 5 position Diaz defeated Green 7-5, 6-4 to round out singles victories.
MU will play on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Western Michigan. First serve is slated for 9 a.m. Central time.
