Marquette Falls To Iowa, 6-1

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Marquette University women's tennis team closed out its weekend slate on Sunday, falling to Iowa, 6-1, at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
Marquette (4-2) struggled to get started, claiming its first point, when Aleeza Kanner took down Natalie Looney, 6-4, 5-7 (2), at the No. 5 position. Kanner is now 6-0 in singles play during dual season.
After starting the season with a 5-0 record this season in singles play, Paula Tormos Sanchez suffered her first setback of the season, falling to Annette Dohanics, 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles play, the dynamic duo of Erin Gebes and Silvia Ambrosio were in the lead, 5-3, at the time their match was called. The team continues to shine, having now won 11 of their past 12 doubles contests, not including the unfinished match.
The Golden Eagles leave Iowa after splitting their two matches against Eastern Michigan and Iowa, and will return back to campus for a week, before concluding their three match road trip in Kalamazoo, Michigan when they take on Western Michigan on Feb. 13.
