Women's Tennis Edges Wisconsin, 4-3

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's tennis team (6-0) defeated Wisconsin, 4-3 in Madison, Wisconsin at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Under head coach Jody Bronson's 30 seasons at Marquette, this is the Golden Eagles third best start. In the 1990-91 season MU started 9-0. The Golden Eagles started 8-0 two seasons prior in 1988-89.
Freshman Paula Tormos Sanchez defeated Wisconsin's Stepanova (3-6, 7-5, 7-5) to clinch the match victory. Tormos started in a deficit but rallied back wining two consecutive sets. Senior Vanessa Foltinger (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) topped her opponent in three sets as well. Sophomore Diana Tokar defeated Kelsey Grambeau (6-2, 6-4).
In doubles, MU outlasted the Badgers winning two of three sets. Senior Ana Pimienta and Gebes took down Wisconsin's No. 1 doubles pairing 6-4 and remains undefeated in doubles play in 2015. Tokar and Tormos Sanchez defeated their opponents 6-4.
MU last defeated Wisconsin in 2013, when the Golden Eagles bested the Badgers, 4-3.
The Golden Eagles finish off their Big Ten swing when they face Indiana and Illinois Feb. 14 and 15, respectively on the road before returning home for a doubleheader Feb. 21 against Western Michigan and IUPUI.
