Ohio State Downs Women's Tennis, 5-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Marquette women's tennis team fell to Ohio State, 5-2, Friday at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center. The Golden Eagles, who fell to 1-6 on the season got singles wins from sophomore Lauren Little and junior Erin Watkins.
In doubles action, Ohio State came out strong and swept the doubles matches to earn the first point of the afternoon.
In singles play, at no. 2 singles Julie Blackmore shut out junior Maria Calbeto in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, to keep the momentum in favor of the Buckeyes. Caitlin O'Keefe followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over sophomore Robin Metzler at no. 4 singles, and push Ohio State's lead to three points, 3-0.
Sophomore Lauren Little took down Sonia Ruzimovsky at no. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1 and give Marquette its first point of the day. At no. 3 singles, junior Erin Watkins kept the Golden Eagles alive with another three set victory. Watkins downed Christina Keesey, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, but those would be the only two wins Marquette would tally as Ohio State secured its 5-2 win claiming decisions at no. 5 and no. 6 singles.
The Golden Eagles will return to action Saturday morning when they play no. 66 Virginia Tech at the Jesse Owens West Tennis Center at 10 a.m. ET
