Marquette Splits Doubleheader Saturday

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis squad (3-3) split its doubleheader on Saturday falling 6-1 to Iowa, but rebounding with a decisive 7-0 sweep over Western Illinois at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
Senior Rocio Diaz earned the Golden Eagles' lone point against Iowa as she defeated Ellen Silver, 7-5, 4-6, 12-10 at No. 6 singles.
MU was completely dominant against Western Illinois, losing just two total sets; one in doubles and one in singles play. Diaz and sophomore Erin Gebes teamed up to play at No. 1 doubles for the first time this spring, while junior Ana Pimienta and sophomore Aleeza Kanner played on the No. 2 court. Sophomore Aina Hernandez Soler made her spring debut in double competition and joined junior Vanessa Foltinger in the No. 3 doubles spot.
Marquette concludes a three-match homestand on Wednesday, Feb. 19 when it hosts crosstown rival Milwaukee at 5 p.m. Central time at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
