Albuquerque, N.M. - The Marquette women's tennis dropped 6-1 to no. 38 New Mexico on Sunday afternoon at the Lobo Tennis Club on the campus of the University of New Mexico. It is the sixth nationally ranked opponent the Golden Eagles have faced in its young spring season. With the loss, Marquette falls to 2-9 on the season.

The Golden Eagles fought hard but were unable to come up with the doubles point. Erin Wakins and Francina Bonnelly were the only Marquette pair to come up with a doubles win, 8-5 at no. 3 doubles. The duos of Lauren Little and Shannon Brown, and Maria Calbeto and Dominika Dabrowski both fell to their respective New Mexico counterparts.

In singles play, only Brown was the only Marquette player to tally a singles win. Brown took down New Mexico's Jennifer Ryba, 7-6, 6-3, at no. 5 singles.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Feb. 23 to host Northern Illinois at 11 a.m., at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
