Women's Tennis Tops West Virginia, 6-1

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team earned its third straight win Sunday, 6-1, over West Virginia at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The win helps Marquette to stand 7-1 overall and remain perfect at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Senior Olga Fischer celebrated her birthday with a pair of wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Fischer paired with Gillian Hush to complete the sweep of the doubles point with an 8-6 win and remain undefeated, 6-0, at No. 1. In singles, Fischer cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Mary Chupa.

Rocio Diaz and Ana Pimienta defeated Veronica Cardenas and Ikttesh Chahal, 8-3, at No.2 doubles to help the Golden Eagles clinch the first point of the afternoon.

Diaz later took care of Catie Wickline in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles to give Marquette its seventh win of the season.

Also earning singles win against the Mountaineers were Hush at No. 1 and Ali Dawson at No. 4.

The Golden Eagles continue their six-match home stand on Friday, Feb. 24 against Ball State. Doubles play at Helfaer Tennis Stadium begins at 4 p.m.
