Marquette Breezes by Western Michigan, 6-1

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team made quick work of Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon breezing past the Broncos, 6-1 at Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles improve to 7-2 overall this season, while the doubles tandem Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes move to 8-1 at No. 1 doubles after a 6-3 decision in today's match. Ali Dawson and Aleeza Kanner clinched the doubles point for MU after rallying from a 3-2 deficit. The duo bested Western Michigan, 6-4.
In singles play, the Golden Eagles won five out of the six positions with Diana Tokar prevailing first, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. Gebes defeated Emily Myers next, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2, while Paula Tormos Sanchez won at the No. 6 slot, 6-4, 6-1. Vanessa Foltinger defeated WMU at the No. 5 position, 6-4, 6-2, while Pimienta dueled at No. 1 singles and won her match 7-5, 3-6, 10-6.
"Western Michigan is a good team with very good coaching," head coach Jody Bronson said. "Today's win is a big one for us as we continue to improve and get ready for the BIG EAST conference matches."
The Golden Eagles afternoon match against IUPUI was canceled, so MU will be back in action against Iowa State in Minneapolis on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 10:00 a.m. CT.
