Feb. 23, 2013
IOWA CITY, Iowa -
The Marquette women’s team had its three-match winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 loss at Iowa.
“We were off to a slow start after losing the doubles point and faced another tough task with having to win four singles matches,” head coach Jody Bronson said. “Erin (Gebes) came back after dropping her first set and Ana (Pimienta) showed great mental toughness and defeated her opponent.”
The Hawkeyes claimed the doubles point with a sweep before heading into singles play. Freshman Erin Gebes bounced back after falling in the first set, 6-7, to win the remaining sets, 7-6, 10-7 at the No. 4 spot.
Sophomore Ana Pimienta played a stellar match at No. 1 singles and defeated Iowa’s nationally ranked Ruth Seaborne, 7-5, 6-3.
