MU Handles Detroit and Green Bay

MILWAUKEE - The No. 69 Marquette women's tennis team earned a pair of decisive wins Friday at Helfaer Tennis Stadium. The Golden Eagles shutout Detroit and Green Bay, 7-0. With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 8-4 overall on the season.
Against both Detroit and Green Bay, Marquette won the doubles point and cruised through singles en route to the 7-0 wins.
The bottom of Marquette's lineup secured the team victory over the Titans with quick wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles. Rachael Hush was the first Golden Eagle off the court following her shutout of Erin Weldon, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Rocio Diaz followed with a decisive win, 6-2, 6-0, over Melanie Capuano at No. 6, and Christina Ruiz took care of Rania Halabi in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5.
Later in the day against Green Bay, the tandems of Calderon and Diaz at No. 2 and Gillian Hush and Utting at No. 3 easily handled their Phoenix counterparts with 8-1 and 8-3 wins, respectively. Ruiz and Rachael Hush won their sixth straight match at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 win over Emily Lawent and Jennifer Bradfield for the sweep of the doubles point.
In singles play, Kelly Barry quickly took down Bradfield at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0 to go ahead 2-0. Chelsea Utting made it 3-0 in favor of the Golden Eagles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Julia Kedrzycki at No. 6, and Rocio Diaz clinched victory with her win over Rebecca Nelson at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2.
Marquette opens a six-match road trip beginning at Seton Hall on Thursday, March 4 at 1:30 p.m. ET/12:30 p.m. CT.
