Women's Tennis Tops Northern Illinois 7-0

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team bested Northern Illinois 7-0 on Friday evening in a total team effort.

The Golden Eagles (4-5) turned in a strong performance and won in straight sets for each of the six singles matches while also earning points in each doubles match. Paula Tormos Sanchez took home victories in the top singles slot (6-0, 7-5) and in doubles paired with Andrea Amortegui (6-3). Freshman Natalija Popovic also played well, winning in both the second singles slot (6-2, 6-0) and the top doubles pairing with Fleur Eggink (6-1).

The win over Northern Illinois (4-6) is Marquette's ninth straight over the Huskies. For Northern Illinois, both Thisuri Molligoda and Maria Potsi played well in singles, falling just a game short from forcing a third set.

Marquette wraps up its pair of home games against crosstown rival Milwaukee March 3 at 12 p.m. Central time.
