MU Falters at Grand Canyon, 4-3

The Marquette women's tennis squad (8-5) fell in a hard fought match, 4-3 at Grand Canyon on Thursday in Phoenix. The Golden Eagles conclude their spring break road trip and will return home for a match next week.

Grand Canyon began the match taking the doubles point with a sweep of MU. Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes dropped just their third match of the season on Thursday and are now 9-3 this season on the No. 1 court.

Gebes rebounded to win her singles match, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 2 slot, while Paula Tormos Sanches bested her opponent at No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-3. Vanessa Foltinger earned Marquette's third point of the day fighting through to a victory, 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 6 position.

Pimienta narrowly missed a chance at earning a fourth point for the Golden Eagles as she won her first set, 6-2 before dropping the final two sets, 1-6, 3-6.

The Golden Eagles will look to return to winning ways on their home court, Tuesday, March 17. The squad will welcome Illinois State to the Helfaer Tennis Stadium at 1 p.m. CT.
