Golden Eagles Defeat San Jose State, 6-1, Sunday

MILWAUKEE -

In its first match in San Francisco, the Marquette women's tennis team defeated San Jose State in a convincing fashion, 6-1, Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles clinched the doubles point early, as juniors Rachael Hush and Christina Ruiz won at the No. 1 spot, 8-0, and sophomores Gillian Hush and Paola Calderon combined for a 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Marquette (11-7) dominated in singles action, winning at all but No. 2 singles. Calderon, Ruiz, Rachael Hush, Gillian Hush, and Kelly Barry each recorded singles points for head coach Jody Bronson's squad.

Gillian Hush, reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week for the past two weeks, claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. Rachael Hush added a 6-1, 6-1 win of her own at No. 5.

The Golden Eagles will continue spring break play against San Francisco on Tuesday, and on Friday, March 19 versus Santa Clara.
