Golden Eagles Edge Houston, 4-3

HOUSTON, Texas - The Marquette University women's tennis team snapped its two-game skid Thursday afternoon as it topped Houston, 4-3, at John E. Hoff Courts. Gillian Hush, Olga Fischer and Rocio Diaz each collected singles wins as Golden Eagles move to 9-4 overall.
Marquette captured the early edge by winning two of three doubles matches at No. 2 and No. 3. Ana Pimienta and Diaz took down Laura Ring and Liselot Koenen, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles, while Tina Radan and Ali Dawson secured the first point of the day with a 9-8 (5) win over Charlotte Phillips and Jo Garvey.
In singles play, Marquette earned the first two points to take a commanding 3-0 lead. Hush won her first set 6-0 before Bryony Hunter was forced to retire at No. 2. Fischer ended Giorgia Pozzan's eight-match win streak with her 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1.
Radan fell 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 to Maia Kazimieruk, which gave Houston its first point of the day (3-1), but Diaz decided the match with her win at No. 3. Diaz rallied after dropping her first set, 6-2, to win her second and third sets both by 6-2 scores and defeat Celia Fraser.
The Golden Eagles finish their Texas road trip at Rice on Friday. Doubles play will begin at 2 p.m.
