MU Tops UC Riverside; Bronson Records 400th Career Victory
March 14, 2017
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's tennis team picked up its third consecutive victory by downing UC Riverside, 5-2, in Riverside, Calif. on Tuesday afternoon. The win for head coach Jody Bronson marks the 400th of her career in her 32 seasons at the helm for Marquette.
Marquette was able to claim the doubles point, after Silvia Ambrosio and Paula Tormos Sanchez dispatched their opponent, 6-1, which marked the first time the duo was paired this season. Diana Tokar and Fleur Eggink clinched the doubles point by sweeping their opponent, 6-0. This was also the first appearance for this duo this season.
In singles play, MU wrapped up the match by winning the first three singles matches. Ambrosio and Tormos led the charge from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots, claiming straight set victories, which included a second-set 6-0 sweep.
The Golden Eagles (7-4) have now won three straight matches, after dropping three straight at home. Bronson's winning record is familiar territory for the successful coach, who has led MU to winning campaigns in 20-of-31 seasons during her tenure.
Marquette will conclude its California swing when it takes on Cal State Northridge at 4 p.m. Central time on Mar. 16. After that match, the Golden Eagles will then open up BIG EAST competition, beginning with a trip to Cincinnati, Ohio to take on Xavier.
