Golden Eagles Fall Short at UCF, 4-3

ORLANDO, Fla. - Despite a strong start by claiming the doubles point, the Marquette University women's tennis team fell short at UCF, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon. The loss puts MU at 9-6 overall on the season.
The Golden Eagles stormed out to a 1-0 lead by securing the doubles points with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush pulled out a 9-7 win over Genevieve Lorbergs and Courtney Griffin, while the No. 2 pair of Olga Fischer and Rocio Diaz took care of Jenny Frisell and Alexis Rodriguez, 8-4.
In singles play, the Knights won four straight singles matches at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6 to claim the team win. Frisell clinched the win for UCF with her three-set win over Fischer, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2.
Kelly Barry and Paola Calderon each registered singles wins for the Golden Eagles. Barry defeated Alexis Rodriguez, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, at No. 1 and Calderon rallied after a 7-5 first set loss, to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 26 at Louisville. Doubles play is set to begin at Noon ET/11 a.m. CT.
