Santa Clara Slides Past Marquette, 4-3

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Marquette women's tennis team lost another close match Friday afternoon, 4-3, at Santa Clara. Paola Calderon, Christina Ruiz and Rachael Hush each earned singles wins for the Golden Eagles who dropped to 11-9 on the season. After Santa Clara claimed the doubles points with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, Rachael Hush, Ruiz and Calderon rattled off singles wins at No. 5, No. 4 and No. 1 to go ahead 3-1. Hush defeated Carmen Pham at No. 5, 6-0, 6-3, while Ruiz took down Maggie McGeorge, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 and Paola Calderon came away with a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 1. From there, the Broncos rallied with wins at No. 2 and No. 6 to even the score, 3-3. Kacie Wagner clinched the win for Santa Clara with three-set victory over Kelly Barry, 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 at No. 3. The Golden Eagles return to action at Oklahoma on Thursday, April 1. Santa Clara 4, Marquette 3
