Marquette Tops Illinois State, 6-1

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's tennis team enjoyed success back on its home court as the squad completed a 6-1 victory over Illinois State on Saturday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium, which improves the Golden Eagles' record to 6-1 on their home court.
Marquette (7-4) set the tone early winning the doubles point as Aleeza Kanner and Leoni Daems made quick work of their opponents with a 6-0 win on court three, while Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez picked up a 6-4 victory on court two, which was their third victory together this season. Erin Gebes and Silvia Ambrosio held a 5-4 advantage at No. 1 doubles, but their match went unfinished when Tokar and Tormos clinched the point for the Golden Eagles.
In singles play, Ambrosio gave MU its second point as she won, 7-5, 6-1 at the No. 1 position, while Kanner earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory on court five, which put the Golden Eagles up, 3-0.
Daems gave Marquette the clinching point as she won her match, 6-4, 6-3 on court six.
Tokar added to the Golden Eagles' point total as she fought back to a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win at the No. 3 position, while Tormos Sanchez followed with a comeback, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6 win at No. 4 singles.
Marquette will play its first BIG EAST Conference match on Sunday, when the squad welcomes Butler at 11 a.m. Central time.
