Marquette Sweeps Butler, 7-0

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team completed a perfect weekend with a 7-0 sweep over Butler on Sunday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.

Once again, MU (8-4) set the tone of the match early, making quick work of the doubles matches as Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez blanked their Bulldogs' opponents, 6-0 at the No. 2 position, while Silvia Ambrosio and Erin Gebes teamed for an easy 6-2 win on the No. 1 court, which clinched the doubles point for the Golden Eagles. Leoni Daems and Aleeza Kanner were able to play through their doubles match at No. 3 and bested Butler, 6-3.

Ambrosio excelled on the No. 1 singles court with a swift, 6-3, 6-0 victory to give the Golden Eagles their second point of the day and Tokar followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win on court No. 3, which put MU in front, 3-0.

Kanner clinched the match win for Marquette as she earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 5 singles position, but Tormos Sanchez added to the total with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court four. Courtney Hebard earned a 6-3, 6-2 win in her first match back in action after an injury on the No. 6 court

Gebes fought through to a victory with a 6-1, 6-4 win on court two, after dropping to an early 4-1 deficit in her second set.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Florida for spring break and play two matches in the sun beginning with a neutral site match against Cincinnati in Orlando on Wednesday, March 23, followed by a match at Florida Atlantic in Boca Raton on Saturday, March 26.
