March 25, 2012
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The No. 17 Fighting Irish proved to be too much for the Marquette University women's tennis team to handle as it was shutout Sunday afternoon at the Courtney Tennis Center. The Golden Eagles stand at 10-6 overall for the season.
Notre Dame claimed all three doubles wins en route to the first point of the day. The No. 1 tandem of Gillian Hush and Olga Fischer came the closest but fell 8-4 to Kristy Frilling and Julie Sabacinski.
In singles play the Irish posted straight-set victories at all six positions and secured the team win following wins at the No. 5, 2, and 1 slots.
Hush put up a fight against No. 84 ranked Frilling but lost 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, as did Vanessa Foltinger at No. 6. Foltinger was the last Golden Eagle off the court after a 6-4, 6-3 defeat by Katherine White.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action at Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Friday, March 30 when they host Cincinnati at 4 p.m.
