Marquette Falls, 6-1, at No. 53 USF on Saturday

The Marquette women’s tennis squad faltered in conference competition on Saturday afternoon as No. 53 USF took a 6-1 victory at the USF Varsity Courts.

The Bulls claimed the doubles point winning at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.  The tandem of Ana Pimienta and Erin Gebes had fought to a 6-6 decision before the match was called.

Freshman Laia Hernandez Soler was the lone winner in singles action as she defeated Kate Parker at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Gebes narrowly missed picking up another victory at No. 2 singles as she won her second set.  Classmate Aina Harnandez Soler also pushed her match into three sets, before falling to Fanny Fracassi in the No. 3 position.

The Golden Eagles return to Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Tuesday, April 2 as they host conference opponent Notre Dame at 9 a.m. CT in the final home match of the season.
