April 1, 2006
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's tennis team used five consecutive singles wins to defeat Seton Hall, 5-2, at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. Juniors Francina Bonnelly and Dominika Dabrowski, sophomores Maria Calbeto and Erin Watkins, and freshman Lauren Little all picked up singles wins. With the victory the Golden Eagles extend their win streak to five matches heading into Sunday's battle with BIG EAST foe Syracuse. "After the doubles matches we just got together and said 'look, we are better than this,'" said head coach Jody Bronson. "We needed to step it up and play like it was the most important match. I am so proud of the way they battled in every match. We are just going to try and keep it going for the match tomorrow. Syracuse is a good team and has done well. It will be tough." Marquette started the day winning just one doubles match as Dabrowski and freshman Robin Metzler teamed up to defeat Danielle Viola and Ebru Burdurogl at no. 3 doubles, 8-3. Seton Hall clinched the doubles point with wins at no. 1 and no. 2 doubles and led 1-0.
"It was tough not winning the doubles point, so we knew it was going to be hard going into singles," added Bronson.
