Marquette Drops a 6-1 Decision to No. 16 Notre Dame

The Marquette women's tennis team fell to No. 16 ranked Notre Dame, 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium. It was the Golden Eagles (10-10) final home match of the season.
The match opened as the Irish won the doubles point by taking victories on all three courts.
In singles action, Britney Sanders made quick work of sophomore Ana Pimienta at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman Erin Gebes fought back in the No. 2 position after dropping the first set, 6-2, but could not overcome Quinn Gleasan as the second set ended 7-6 (4). Sophomore Ali Dawson fell in her first set, 6-2, but stormed back to win the second, 7-6 (4), which evened the match. In the third and decisive set, Dawson fell 10-6 in the fifth court.
Marquette's lone point came from freshman Laia Hernandez Soler who mounted a comeback over Julie Sabacinski after falling in her first set, 6-2. She took the second set, 7-6 (4) and won the tie breaking set, 10-6, which put the Golden Eagles on the board.
MU will be off for over a week until the squad travels to Louisville on Saturday, April 13 for a match at 10 a.m. CT before traveling to Cincinnati on Sunday. That match will also be played at 10 a.m. CT.
