Marquette Drops a 6-1 Match to Xavier

MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's tennis team fell to Xavier, 6-1, at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium on Sunday afternoon after a highly contested singles portion of the match.

Marquette (11-6) continued its excellent doubles play earning the doubles point by taking two of the three matches. Aleeza Kanner and Leoni Daems blanked Xavier, 6-0 on court three, while Diana Tokar and Paula Tormos Sanchez clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at court two. Tokar and Tormos Sanchez have a 7-1 record together this spring and have won six matches in-a-row.

The Musketeers claimed three singles matches with ease, but the Golden Eagles kept fighting until Xavier clinched the match victory with a three-set win at the No. 1 singles position. Silvia Ambrosio turned in a battle on the court after falling 2-6 in the first set, she won the second, 6-3 before falling in the third, 3-6.

Tokar and Tormos each played their singles matches to three sets, but were unable to overcome the Musketeers.

Marquette will hit the road next weekend and travel East to take on St. John's on Friday, April 8 at 11 a.m. Central time, followed by a trip to Seton Hall on Saturday, April 9 at 1 p.m. CT.
