STATE UNIVERSITY, Ark.--The Marquette women's tennis team (10-8) fell just short in the first of two road matches on Friday in a 4-3 decision at Arkansas State.

The Golden Eagles got off to a great start, sweeping doubles action. Junior Ali Dawson and sophomore Laia Hernandez Soler teamed at No. 1 doubles and earned an 8-4 victory, while senior Rocio Diaz and sophomore Erin Gebes continued to rack ups victories at the No. 2 position with an 8-4 win. The tandem is 8-2 this season in the No. 2 slot. Junior Ana Pimienta and sophomore Aina Hernandez Soler also won their flight, also with an 8-4 victory.

In singles, Gebes bested Julie Gauguery, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot, while A. Hernandez Soler easily handled her match at the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-3 over Chiara Stefanov. Gebes is 11-7 overall in dual competition, while Hernandez Soler improves to 7-4.

MU will travel to No. 38 Memphis on Sunday, April. 6. First serve is slated for 11 a.m. Central time.
