Marquette Handles Connecticut, 6-1

STORRS, Conn. - The Marquette University women's tennis team won all three doubles matches and five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 defeat of Connecticut Friday afternoon at the Connecticut Tennis Courts. The win is Marquette's fifth straight and helps it improve to 15-7 overall.
The Golden Eagles made quick work of the Huskies in doubles play and clinched the first point of the day with an 8-0 win at No. 2 by Olga Fischer and Rocio Diaz and an 8-1 win at No. 3 by Gillian Hush and Chelsea Utting.
In singles play, Marquette went ahead 3-0 after Diaz and Utting downed their respective Connecticut counterparts in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Kelly Barry secured the match win when she took down Emily Herb, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 2.
Ruiz and Fischer capped the team win with their wins at No. 4 and No. 1, respectively. Ruiz defeated Abby McKeon, 6-1, 6-1, and Fischer took care of Learmonth, 6-3, 6-4.
The Golden Eagles will be back in action Saturday as they take on West Virginia and Providence.
