No. 37 USF Defeats Marquette, 4-1

TAMPA, Fla. - The Marquette University women's tennis team continued its three-match road trip at No. 37 USF Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles (11-9) captured the early lead by winning the doubles point but couldn't hold on and dropped 4-1 to the Bulls (14-6) at Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Golden Eagles took the early lead by winning two of three doubles matches. Ali Dawson and Gillian Hush paired for the first time during of the spring and earned an 8-6 win over Paula Montoya and Lucie Rey, 8-6. Rocio Diaz and Ana Pimienta clinched the first point of the afternoon following their 8-2 decision over Danielle Mills and Fanny Fracassi at No. 2.
"I was really proud of the way we came out today," said head coach Jody Bronson. "We switched up all of the doubles teams and we came out with a lot of energy and it showed. Overall, I thought we took a step forward in every way today. We will get back at it and will be ready for DePaul on Saturday.
USF took control in singles play and won at the No. 3, 5, 1 and 2 slots to win the match. Fanny Fracassi downed Diaz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3, Vanessa Foltinger was tripped up by Alessandra Bonte, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5, Ecanterina Vasenina topped Gillian Hush, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 and Loreto Alonso Martinez edged Olga Fischer, 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2.
Left on the courts with unfinished matches were Dawson and Pimienta at No. 4 and 6, respectively.
The Golden Eagles will finish the regular season at No. 65 DePaul on Saturday, April 14.
