Marquette Pulls to a 4-3 Win Over Xavier

MILWAUKEE-- It came down to the very last court, but Fleur Eggink clinched the fifth win in-a-row for the Marquette women's tennis team as the Golden Eagles defeated Xavier, 4-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Golden Eagles (10-7) scored first as Fleur Eggink and Natalija Popovic clinched the doubles point with a tough win at the No. 1 position. Paula Tormos Sanchez and Andrea Amortegui also won at the No. 2 spot.
In singles, Isabella Franks scored the second point of the day for MU as she won with a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory on court No. 6. Xavier claimed the next three singles victories at position No. 4, 5 and No. 1 to take a 3-2 lead in the match. Popovic evened the score at 3-3 as she fought to a 7-6, 2-6, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position leading to the final court as Eggink pulled out a tough 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win leading to the match win for Marquette.
Marquette will hit the road for a pair of BIG EAST contests next weekend beginning at Seton Hall on Friday, April 13 at Noon CT.
