DePaul and Second-Ranked Notre Dame Sweep Women's Tennis 7-0

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Marquette women's tennis team suffered two sweeps from BIG EAST Conference foes this weekend losing to both DePaul and no. 2 Notre Dame, 7-0, at the Courtney Tennis Center. DePaul started off hot winning all three doubles matches and capturing the doubles point taking the early 1-0 lead. DePaul kept the momentum on its side and won all six singles matches giving the Golden Eagles their second straight loss. Junior Francina Bonnelly put up a fight at the fifth spot but still lost, 7-6, 6-4 to Bojana Murisic. Freshman Robin Metzler also gave a good effort at no. 6 singles, but couldn't pull out the win and fell in consecutive 7-5 sets to Petra Rehusova. Against Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish quickly grabbed the match victory first winning the doubles point and then capturing victories at no. 6, no. 5 and no. 3 doubles. After the Fighting Irish took the doubles point, they proved why they are the second best team in the nation and won all six singles matches. Notre Dame's Lauren Connelly swept junior Katie Donovan in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, giving the Fighting Irish a 2-0 lead. Katie Potts pushed their lead to three with a straight set win over Metzler, 6-1, 6-1, at no. 5 singles. Krisin Stastny clinched the victory for Notre Dame with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Bonnelly at no. 4 singles. The Golden Eagles will play their last match of the regular season at Louisville on Saturday, April 15, at Noon EDT. DePaul 7, Marquette 0
